Skyfall; a mandate for the new generation

I saw the new Bond film this weekend, (paid full price and all so it was around $30 after all was said and done) and it was better than I hoped, better than expected, and better than the previews that I saw before going.

The action was great but I personally prefer Casino Royale's fight scenes, the locations, like Shanghai and Turkey were up to par, and their was the requisite visit to the casino, albeit no real gambling.

What was not great was the addition of the laptop bearing, new generation Q. He actually made reference to wearing pajamas, If he had added LOL at some point, it would have been everything I dislike about the current batch of early 20 somethings. The new Q was "smug", condescending to his elders and overall just "too into" himself. I like the fact he got handed his ass, but that's for another time.

Without giving too much away, I do want to explain what is the mandate for the new generation. All that is new, is not better or the best; sometimes the best way to accomplish your ends is to look to the past, and "keep it simple stupid".

When trying to make something more high tech, add too many new features, or when you trim away what you think is "dead weight" you might be designing your own end. Sometimes we add too much to the formula and the recipe for success doesn't even resemble the original cake we started with; it winds up looking the cake after we digest it, and flush it. This Bond movie removed the crap that had been added to update the franchise over the years, bring back key players and tried to return it to "roots". For all intents and purposes, it was essentially the Kustom scene in the early 90's.

I love Bond movies and this one was probably a bit more personal for me as it was also about resurrection. In the coming months, resurrection is playing a key role in everything I do, Voodoo Shoppe included.

I cannot really say more here or I will give too much away but keep in mind one point that transcends the movie:

In the end, the sword beats the laptop.
